Earth, Let Me Rest
When I am weary let me rest in the calm embrace of the forest,
But please let me love.
Let me live.
Allow the fullness of life to rip me open a thousand time a day.
When my voice shakes and there’s nothing left inside of me,
Let me move with a heart so fierce it shakes mountaintops.
Let the wind carry me.
Let the flowers hold my pain and the waters sooth my soul.
Earth, let them feel this.
Let them hear me.
Let them see these words etched into every stone.
The ones they throw at each other.
At themselves.
Let them remember the rhythm of life that beats inside of them too.
Let this sound ring in their ears so loudly,
so vigorously that it drowns out all others.
That they have no choice but to hear it.
To feel it.
To put their ears directly to the ground,
To the soil,
And remember.
Earth, let me rest.
